Current status of FreeCard

FreeCard is currently on ice, so to speak. This does NOT mean that no progress is being made towards this goal. OTC, there is indeed some progress being made. We have gone back to the roots, e.g. design and planning, and the work we are doing is implementation-free. IOW, we are doing the high-level specs, which will then become a model, which we will then breathe life into, e.g. it becomes an executable model that genuinely performs like the app. In fact, the model will be the app. :-))

At first, this app will run server-side only, and the user-interface will be purely Web, and it will be called XulCard.

If XulCard catches-on AND people request a client-side version of it, then open-source server software ( ex:Apache ) will be integrated into our server-side-only XulCard, thus making it available [as a standalone] on the client-side ... for whomever who wishes to run a personal version of it on their own machine[s]. This client-side fork of XulCard will be called FreeCard.

Alternatively, FreeCard will be coded [from scratch] -- with Java, Python, C, or whatever -- according to the specs and so on that will have been developed for XulCard. It is very likely that BOTH will have the same interfaces, albeit there may be some differences of course, due to the different capabilities supported by current Web-browsers versus 'real' software akin to HC. But, as time goes on, these differences will be less-and-less discernable. :-))
